It must be taken when choosing a Digital 8 camcorder, because all are not compatible with 8mm and Hi8 video tapes.

In other words, if you still have the analog 8mm and Hi8 cameras to playback videos.
Check out the Sony TRV350 and TRV460. They have a Firewire output and can also be used to make the analog-digital conversion of analog input.
If you have a PC, I could name dozens of video cameras, and free software to help you, including Linux, but not on Mac Every Mac is several times longer in any case all costs.
